SMART approach lowers risk of asthma exacerbations

Adopting the SMART (single maintenance and reliever therapy) treatment approach of using an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and the long-acting β2-agonist formoterol significantly lowers the risk of asthma exacerbations, according to a systematic review and meta-analysis reported in JAMA.
